Care Mobile

Climb Aboard "Our Doctor's Office on Wheels"
Open the door and step inside the bright reception area of the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. This 40-foot vehicle, designed and built specifically for the delivery of pediatric health care, is equipped with two modern exam rooms on each side of the vehicle.
Why is the Care Mobile needed?
Despite increases in health care services available in the Pittsburgh community and beyond, many families and children still lack proper health care and information simply because they cannot access it. Transportation issues, lack of funds, no insurance or insufficient coverage, logistical arrangements and various other circumstances often impede caretakers' efforts to seek proper health care for their children - particularly if that health care is located far from their home.
The Care Mobile brings vital medical services to underserved communities in western Pennsylvania, in order to improve health outcomes, promote well-being and provide continuity of care for children, who are medically underserved.
What does the Care Mobile do?
Pediatricians, nurses, nurse practioners and respiratory therapists from Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh provide medical care to children and adolescents who are unable to visit a doctor regularly. They also offer health education to teach parents, guardians and children about healthy lifestyles and safety.
If a child has no insurance the Care Mobile staff will work with the family to apply for Medical Assistance or the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Like the Ronald McDonald House, Care Mobile services are available to all children, regardless of their ability to pay.

To date, the Care Mobile has delivered primary care to thousands of patients, including many children who have not seen a physician in years, and has seen tens of thousands of children and families at events.
How is the Care Mobile supported?
Global RMHC donated the Care Mobile to Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Children's Hospital is responsible for the annual operating costs of the vehicle.
The RMHC of Pittsburgh has supported the Care Mobile program since its inception by funding ongoing maintenance of the vehicle, donating toys for children who attend Care Mobile events and promoting the Care Mobile to local families and the community.
