Our Relationship with McDonald’s

McDonald's I'm lovin' it.

Ronald McDonald House Charities has been McDonald’s “charity of choice” for over 30 years. This partnership is unique and extremely beneficial but often misunderstood.

Ronald McDonald Charities of Pittsburgh is independently licensed and operated and develops an individual relationship with the local McDonald’s restaurants in our community. Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh is an independent 501c3 nonprofit charity but licenses our name from McDonald’s Corporation. We are governed in full by a separate Board of Directors and establish our own mission, policies and manage our own budget and fundraising process.

Portions of our annual operating cost for the Ronald McDonald House are graciously funded by McDonald’s and our local owner/operators and restaurants. McDonald’s involvement extends far beyond monetary support:

  • McDonald’s and local owner/operators partner with us for promotional and fundraising events
  • McDonald’s employees are dedicated volunteers
  • Local owner/operators are active members of our board of directors
  • RMHC canisters hosted in restaurants is one our largest sources of ongoing fundraising
  • McDonald’s suppliers support our efforts through monetary gifts as well as in-kind donations that help us keep our cost low for the families staying with us.

The remainder of our annual operating income comes from the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations.

Although McDonald’s is one our largest corporate donors, no one company can solely fund RMHC’s programs and our projected growth. We need the support of the entire community and greatly value any support provided to the Pittsburgh Ronald McDonald House, whether it is through cash donations, volunteering or fundraising efforts.
