GROUP VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh is always looking for groups who are willing to share their time and talent with our families. These programs are designed for small groups of 7-12 volunteers. Most opportunities are suitable for volunteers aged 14 years or older.
Group Opportunities Include:
Cook a Meal for Our Families: Come to the Ronald McDonald House to cook a meal for our families any day of the week and ease their burden of having to be in the kitchen instead of their child’s bedside. This is a great opportunity for a group of 5 or more people to cook breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. To learn more about cooking a meal for our families, please click here. Please review the food preparation guidelines.
House Warmers: Provide support to the operation of the house. This may include light cleaning or other maintenance activities.
Lead a House Activity: We welcome people to come up with kid or adult friendly activities that can help family members relax and reduce their stress if only for an hour or two. We invite you to lead a group of house guests in activities such as: craft workshops, games, cookie baking, etc.
Design a Fundraiser: Organize a tournament or contest and designate the House as the recipient of the proceeds. For example: provide employees with incentives such as causal Friday if they donate.
Breakfast Bag: Is a great project for groups that include youth volunteers under age 14. Breakfast bars, bagels, yogurt, fruit cups, etc. are purchased by the group, and then sorted into individual brown bags that families can grab and go on their way to the hospital in the morning. Decorating the bags before filling them is also a fun group project for children who are interested in volunteering.
Pop Tab Collecting: Collect and donate aluminum pop tabs to the Ronald McDonald House. The donated pop tabs are taken to a local scrap metal yard where they are weighed and exchanged for cash. The pop tab program raises $3,000 a year for the families staying at the House.
